Biofeedback is an accepted technique for headache control. Studies have demonstrated that biofeedback can help to reduce headache frequency and severity. It is a learned method of relaxation, that uses an instrument to monitor bodily responses.

There are a variety of methods that may be used. Electrodes are attached to the patient and bodily functions are monitored including, heart rate, blood pressure, brain waves, breathing, and muscle tension.  These electrodes receive information about your body's responses.

For example, when you experience pain, your forehead muscles may begin to tense, the electrodes will pick up tension in the muscles, there may be a visual cue or an auditory cue such as a tone that gives you feedback that you are tensing muscles, telling you that you should relax those muscles.

In time you will learn to recognize that muscle tension and learn to relax the muscles without the auditory cues.

Although this can be an effective method of prevention, it is time consuming. It requires a commitment from the patient. A trained therapist is needed to work with the migraine patient, and practice is essential.

Cost may be a factor. Depending on health coverage, this may not be covered on all health plans and may be beyond the patient's means. Try to evaluate the toll migraine takes on your life and consider this as an investment.

In answer to your question , SHOULD I TRY IT ?  It causes no harm. It may be beneficial for your migraines and for your health. It is considered useful as an additional preventative treatment. The cost may be a factor to consider. So given all these considerations, there is little to lose by trying this as an additional measure.
