Are any tests needed for the diagnosis of migraine?
There is no test that will diagnose migraine for you or your doctor.Migraine is diagnosed based upon the person’s symptoms.
There is no test for migraine. All blood tests, x-rays such as brain CT scans, and other diagnostic imaging tests including brain MRI scans are normal.
This may change in the future, once we understand migraine better. At that time, it may be that specialized tests will be developed to help us diagnose migraine.
At the present time, however, an accurate diagnosis of migraine depends on the patient giving a doctor who is knowledgeable about migraine an accurate description of their symptoms.
The more people know about headache, the better they will be able to describe their symptoms.
