My migraines have become more frequent….should I just stop my preventive treatment?

Migraine [1] comes in cycles of good and bad periods. Sometimes there is an obvious reason (less sleep, more stress, a new medication, hormonal changes….) but sometimes it is not that clear why migraines keep coming at an increased pace. If your migraine [1] frequency is rising up, do not stop your preventative assuming it does not work anymore.

Stopping may lead to worsening of the situation. Keep a diary. Look for triggers or aggravating factors. Stopping a preventive abruptly in a difficult moment is a common mistake made by migraineurs «tired of taking drugs». If the frequency remains higher than usual for many weeks, then take an appointment with your physician. It may be a better idea to increase your preventive for a while, not stop it.
