MIGRAINE MODE

Does your child live with migraine?

For children with migraine, starting a new school year can be challenging. What can you do to ensure a smooth transition and successful school year?

Migraine Canada™ has created back-to-school checklists for primary and secondary students to help families prepare. These checklists cover essential steps like meeting with school staff, assembling a Migraine Emergency Kit, and requesting appropriate accommodations.

We recommend completing these tasks in the weeks before school starts. If the school year has already begun, use the checklist to guide necessary actions and discussions with school administrators.

*For children starting at a new school, see our additional suggestions for a meeting in June before the new year begins.

Important Note: It’s crucial for both students and staff to follow the migraine protocol. School staff must understand the importance of taking steps and/or administering medication at the onset of migraine symptoms to avoid a full-blown migraine attack. Working closely with the school ensures this understanding.
