MIGRAINE MODE

Migraine Canada participated in a project with other organizations from around the work and key stakeholders to gain a better understanding of Patient Centric Communications. The Primary objectives included:

    • Examining how Healthcare providers and people with migraine communicate during clinical encounters and to what extent each person with migraine is acknowledged and addressed as an individual with unique characteristics, treatment preferences and aspirations
    • Developing resources for people with migraine and Healthcare providers with actionable recommendations for improving person-centricity to establish collaborative therapeutic relationships.

The Patient Centric Communication (PCC) assets are patient-facing communication materials intended to support local migraine activities: Raising awareness of the concept of person-centricity in migraine and sharing actionable recommendations for establishing collaborative therapeutic relationships.

The PCC assets encompass recommendations from people with expertise in migraine with the following key messaging:

  1. Migraine is personal, and migraine management should be too
  2. The person is the true expert on their migraine and how it affects their life
  3. Communication is fundamental to person-centred care that focuses on individual treatment preferencesneeds
    and goals
  4. Encouraging independent record keeping can help people to better understand and communicate about their migraine and treatment, and keep conversations focused on them and their needs
