Migraine is a disease of the brain. Depression and anxiety are also diseases of the brain. Understandably, many wonder about how issues with one network of the brain might impact networks in other parts of the brain, and how it is all connected.

While researchers in Canada and around the world are still learning new things about this topic, one thing is certain: the interaction between psychological issues and migraine can be a significant challenge for those managing both. Many people find that their anxiety and depression trigger migraine attacks (and vice versa!). This is why understanding one’s psychological background is so important when understanding and treating migraine

Below, you will find research-backed resources and information written by our team of medical contributors to help you navigate the interactions between migraine and mental health.

These resources are not a replacement for individual medical advice and care. If you are experiencing feelings of anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns, please contact a mental health professional or contact emergency services if you are in crisis.
