My migraines have become more frequent….should I just stop my preventive treatment?
Migraine comes in cycles of good and bad periods. Sometimes there is an obvious reason (less sleep, more stress, a new medication, hormonal changes….) but sometimes it is not that clear why migraines keep coming at an increased pace. If your migraine frequency is rising up, do not stop your preventative assuming it does not work anymore.
Stopping may lead to worsening of the situation. Keep a diary. Look for triggers or aggravating factors. Stopping a preventive abruptly in a difficult moment is a common mistake made by migraineurs «tired of taking drugs». If the frequency remains higher than usual for many weeks, then take an appointment with your physician. It may be a better idea to increase your preventive for a while, not stop it.
